The inclusion of an external guide ring ensures meticulous centering on the flange face. The inner ring is strategically designed to prevent implosion during installation, shield the sealing element from extreme conditions, and fill voids between flanges to avert erosive damage, thus minimizing failure risks. Typically fashioned from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring aligns with DIN 2699 standards, which mandates inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. Inner rings are vital for PTFE fillers per ASME B16.20 standards and are highly recommended for graphite fillers. This profile is versatile for use in both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring enhances radial strength to mitigate blowout risks and functions as a compression stop.
