This configuration ensures accurate centering of the gasket on the flange face via the external guide ring. The inner ring is crucial in safeguarding against the gasket's potential collapse into the pipe during installation, shielding the sealing element from extreme environmental conditions and abrasive mediums. It effectively fills the void between flanges, preventing flange erosion and diminishing the risk of malfunction. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the DIN 2699 standard mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets, especially those with PTFE filler, as per ASME B16.20 standards. Particularly beneficial for gaskets with graphite fillers, this profile excels in both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring furnishes additional radial strength, averting gasket blowout and serving as a compression limiter.
