This spiral wound gasket is ingeniously designed with a robust solid outer and inner ring, augmented by an inner ring crafted to elevate the gasket's performance. The external guide ring meticulously aligns the gasket on the flange face, ensuring precision and reliability. Crafted to avert any implosion into the pipe during installation, the inner ring serves as a shield for the sealing element against extreme temperatures and harsh mediums. It effectively fills the void between flanges, safeguarding against erosion and significantly diminishing the risk of failure. Typically made from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring is a staple in compliance with the DIN 2699 standard (German), mandating its inclusion in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE fillers, the ASME B16.20 standards necessitate an inner ring, which is also deemed crucial for graphite fillers. This profile is ideal for use in both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring imparts additional radial strength, averting gasket blowout and acting as a reliable compression stop. Commonly made from carbon steel and optionally painted or zinc plated to fend off corrosion, the outer ring can also be fashioned from specialized alloys for applications involving higher temperatures and severe mediums.
