The external guide ring is meticulously designed to precisely center the gasket on the flange face. The inner ring's pivotal role includes preventing potential gasket implosion into the pipe during installation, safeguarding the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums, and effectively filling the void between flanges to avert flange erosion. Additionally, it significantly diminishes the possibility of failure. Typically, the inner ring is constructed of the same alloy as the winding, adhering to the DIN 2699 standard (German), which mandates inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets featuring PTFE filler, inner rings are mandated by the ASME B16.20 standards and are deemed crucial for those with graphite fillers. This distinguished profile is ideally employed in both raised and flat-faced flanges.
