By incorporating an inner ring, the gasket is safeguarded against imploding into the pipe during installation. Additionally, it protects the sealing element from extreme conditions, fills the void between flanges to prevent erosion, and minimizes failure risks. Typically, the inner ring is fabricated from the same alloy as the winding, adhering to the DIN 2699 standard (German). For gaskets with PTFE filler, inner rings are mandated by ASME B16.20 standards and are highly recommended for graphite fillers. Ideal for both raised and flat-faced flanges, the external guide ring adds radial strength to prevent blowouts and serves as a compression stop.
