This superior spiral wound gasket boasts a robust outer and inner ring design, with an additional inner ring meticulously inserted to amplify performance. The external guide ring ensures precise centering on the flange face. The inner ring is essential to prevent any potential implosion into the pipe during installation, protect the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums, and fill the void between flanges, thereby preventing erosion and reducing the risk of failure. Constructed typically from the same alloy as the winding, the DIN 2699 standard mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. According to ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are necessary for gaskets with PTFE filler and highly recommended for graphite fillers. This profile is ideally suited for raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring adds significant radial strength to prevent blowout and serves as a compression stop. Often made from carbon steel, which is either painted or zinc-plated to prevent corrosion, the outer ring can also be manufactured from high-performance alloys for high-temperature and more aggressive medium applications.
