This state-of-the-art spiral wound gasket boasts a robust design, featuring both solid outer and inner rings. The inclusion of an inner ring significantly enhances its performance, offering exceptional stability during installation and operation. This crucial addition prevents potential gasket implosion into the pipe, safeguarding the sealing element from extreme conditions and various media. By filling the void between flanges, it effectively prevents erosion, thereby reducing the risk of failure. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring is mandatory in accordance with the German DIN 2699 standard for all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE filler, inner rings are a necessity under ASME B16.20 standards, and are strongly advised for those with graphite fillers. This superior profile is ideally suited for both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external guide ring, expertly designed to provide enhanced radial strength, plays a pivotal role in preventing gasket blowout and serves as a reliable compression stop. Often constructed from carbon steel, which is either painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion, the outer ring can be tailored from alloys to accommodate higher temperatures and more demanding applications.
