This custom spiral wound gasket boasts a robust design with a solid outer and inner ring. The expertly inserted inner ring significantly enhances gasket performance and ensures precise alignment on the flange face. By preventing implosion into the pipe during installation, the inner ring safeguards the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh mediums. It also fills the void between flanges, protecting against erosion, and minimizes the risk of failure. Typically, the inner ring is crafted from the same alloy as the winding, adhering to the DIN 2699 standard which mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. According to ASME B16.20 standards, PTFE filler gaskets require inner rings, and they are highly recommended for graphite fillers as well. This profile is ideally suited for raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring enhances radial strength to avert gasket blowout and functions as a compression stop. Often made of carbon steel, either painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion, the outer ring can also be manufactured from alloys for higher temperatures and more challenging applications, ensuring durability and reliability.
