This exquisite spiral wound gasket is meticulously crafted with a robust outer and inner ring. An additional inner ring is strategically inserted to elevate the gasket's performance, while an external guide ring precisely centers the gasket on the flange face. This critical inner ring plays a pivotal role by preventing the gasket from imploding into the pipe during installation, safeguarding the sealing element against extreme temperatures and harsh mediums. It effectively fills the void between flanges to avert flange erosion and reduces the chances of failure. Typically composed of the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the stringent DIN 2699 standard (German), which mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. As per ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are indispensable for gaskets with PTFE filler and are highly recommended for those with graphite fillers. This superior profile is predominantly utilized in raised and flat faced flanges. The external ring imparts reinforced radial strength, thwarting gasket blowout and serving as a compression stop. Often crafted from carbon steel, either painted or zinc-plated for corrosion resistance, the outer ring may also be fashioned from alloys for high-temperature and severe medium applications.
