This remarkable spiral wound gasket is engineered with a robust solid outer and inner ring, enriched by an additional inner ring for superior performance. The inclusion of this inner ring serves multiple crucial functions: it prevents the gasket from collapsing into the pipe during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme conditions, fills flange voids to avert erosion, and minimizes the risk of failure. Crafted usually from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring complies with the DIN 2699 (German) standard, which mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets, and it is crucial for gaskets with PTFE fillers per ASME B16.20 standards, as well as beneficial for graphite fillers. This gasket profile is ideal for raised and flat-faced flanges. Meanwhile, the external guide ring not only provides additional radial strength to avert blowouts but also functions as a compression stop. Typically manufactured from carbon steel, painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion, the outer ring can also be made from alloys, catering to higher temperature and severe medium conditions.
