However, it goes a step further with an inserted inner ring to significantly boost its performance. The outer guide ring ensures the gasket is precisely centered on the flange face, delivering optimal functionality. The inner ring is a critical component that prevents implosion into the pipe during installation, safeguards the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh conditions, fills gaps between flanges to avert erosion, and minimizes failure risks. Crafted usually from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring meets the high standards set by DIN 2699 (German) and is essential for gaskets with PTFE fillers as per ASME B16.20 standards, with significant importance for graphite fillers. This configuration is ideal for raised and flat-faced flanges. The outer ring, providing additional radial strength, prevents blowouts and acts as a compression stop.
