To augment performance, an inner ring is ingeniously incorporated, ensuring superior functionality. This addition prevents implosion during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums, and effectively fills voids between flanges to safeguard against erosion and reduce failure risk. Constructed typically from the same alloy as the winding, this inner ring is essential for gaskets with PTFE fillers, as per ASME B16.20 standards, and is highly recommended for those with graphite fillers. The design adheres to the DIN 2699 standard, mandating inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. The gasket's profile is proficiently suited for raised and flat-faced flanges, complemented by an external guide ring that ensures precise centering on the flange face while delivering additional radial strength to thwart blowouts. Acting as a compression stop, the outer ring, crafted from durable carbon steel—often painted or zinc plated for corrosion resistance—can also be fabricated from specialized alloys to withstand higher temperatures and more challenging applications.
