The external guide ring ensures precise centering on the flange face. The inner ring's inclusion prevents the gasket from collapsing into the pipe during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh mediums, fills the gap between flanges to avert erosion, and reduces failure risks. It is typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding to maintain uniformity. According to DIN 2699 standards, inner rings are mandatory in all spiral wound gaskets. ASME B16.20 standards also necessitate inner rings for PTFE-filled gaskets and consider them crucial for graphite fillers. This gasket profile is ideal for both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring adds substantial radial strength, preventing blowout and acting as a compression limiter.
