This exceptional spiral wound gasket features a robust design with a solid outer and inner ring. The inner ring is strategically inserted to significantly boost gasket performance, ensuring optimal sealing. This precise engineering includes an external guide ring that perfectly centers the gasket on the flange face, preventing any misalignment. The inner ring serves as a critical component, safeguarding against potential implosion during installation, protecting the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums, and filling any voids between flanges to prevent erosion. Furthermore, it remarkably reduces the risk of failure. Crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring is essential for gaskets with PTFE filler per ASME B16.20 standards and is vital for graphite fillers as well. As specified by the DIN 2699 standard (German), inner rings are mandatory in all spiral wound gaskets. This advanced profile is typically utilized in raised and flat faced flanges. The external ring not only provides added radial strength to prevent blowout but also acts as a precision compression stop. Typically constructed from carbon steel, which is either painted or zinc plated to resist corrosion, the outer ring can also be made from alloys to withstand higher temperatures and more challenging medium applications.
