The innovative inclusion of the inner ring significantly boosts gasket functionality by ensuring impeccable alignment on the flange face with an external guide ring. This essential inner ring prevents inadvertent implosion into the pipe during installation, safeguarding the sealing element from harsh temperatures and challenging mediums. It expertly fills the void between flanges, protecting them from erosion and diminishing the risk of gasket failure. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring complies with the stringent DIN 2699 standard (German), mandating inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. Notably, the ASME B16.20 standards require PTFE fillers to include inner rings and highly recommend them for graphite fillers. This design exhibits optimal performance in both raised and flat-faced flanges. The outer ring enhances radial strength, mitigating the risk of gasket blowout and functioning as a compression limiter. Crafted from durable carbon steel—either painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion—it can also be manufactured using alloys to withstand elevated temperatures and demanding medium conditions.
