The external guide ring ensures precise centering on the flange face. The inner ring plays a crucial role in preventing gasket implosion into the pipe during installation, shielding the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh mediums, filling the void between flanges to avert flange erosion, and significantly minimizing failure risks. Typically, the inner ring is crafted from the same alloy as the winding. The DIN 2699 standard mandates inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets, while ASME B16.20 standards require them for gaskets with PTFE filler, and they are deemed essential for graphite fillers. This profile is ideal for both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring imparts additional radial strength to thwart gasket blowout and functions as a compression stop.
