This innovative spiral wound gasket boasts a robust construction featuring a solid outer and inner ring, designed for superior performance. An integrated inner ring enhances the gasket's efficiency by preventing any risk of it collapsing into the pipe during installation. It also serves to shield the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums, filling the gap between flanges to thwart erosion and minimizing failure risks. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the German DIN 2699 standard, which mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. According to ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are crucial for gaskets with PTFE fillers and are considered vital for those with graphite fillers. This design is typically employed in raised and flat-faced flanges. The external guide ring offers added radial strength to fend off gasket blowout and functions as a compression limiter. This configuration, often constructed from carbon steel—either painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion—can also be forged from alloys for high-temperature and demanding medium applications, ensuring durability in raised and flat-faced flanges.
