Ingeniously, an inner ring is inserted to significantly elevate gasket performance, complemented by an external guide ring that meticulously centers the gasket on the flange face. The inner ring plays a vital role in preventing the gasket from imploding into the pipe during installation and shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums. Furthermore, it fills the void between flanges to combat flange erosion and mitigates the risk of failure. Typically fabricated from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the DIN 2699 standard, mandating inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. Moreover, ASME B16.20 standards necessitate inner rings for gaskets with PTFE filler and highly recommend them for graphite fillers. This resilient profile is optimally utilized in both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring delivers additional radial strength to avert gasket blowout and functions as a compression stop.
