This advanced spiral wound gasket, meticulously engineered with a solid outer and inner ring, incorporates an additional inner ring to significantly enhance performance. The inner ring is strategically inserted to avert the gasket from collapsing into the pipe upon installation, safeguard the sealing element from extreme temperature variations and harsh mediums, fill the void between flanges to prevent erosion, and minimize the risk of failure. Typically, the inner ring matches the alloy of the winding, adhering to the DIN 2699 standard, which necessitates inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. According to ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are mandatory for gaskets with PTFE fillers and are crucial for graphite fillers. This exceptional profile is predominantly utilized in raised and flat faced flanges. The external guide ring not only accurately centers the gasket on the flange face but also provides additional radial strength to prevent blowout, acting as a compression stop. Generally constructed from carbon steel (painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion), the outer ring can also be crafted from specialized alloys for high-temperature and severe medium applications.
