The inclusion of an inner ring not only boosts gasket durability but also meticulously centers it on the flange face, significantly enhancing installation precision. This ring is strategically designed to prevent implosion into the pipe during setup, shield the sealing element from extreme temperatures and various mediums, and fill flange voids to avert erosion, thereby minimizing failure risks. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, this inner ring adheres to the stringent DIN 2699 standards, which prescribe its use in all spiral wound gaskets. Per ASME B16.20 standards, the inner ring is essential for gaskets with PTFE fillers and is highly recommended for those with graphite fillers. Ideally suited for raised and flat-faced flanges, it also features an external guide ring that offers extra radial strength to avert blowout, while functioning as a compression stopper. This outer ring, often made of corrosion-resistant painted or zinc-plated carbon steel, can also be constructed from high-performance alloys for applications with elevated temperatures and aggressive mediums.
