This advanced spiral wound gasket boasts solid outer and inner rings. An added inner ring enhances performance by providing accurate centering on the flange face. This enhancement prevents the gasket from imploding into the pipe during installation, safeguards the sealing element against extreme temperatures and harsh mediums, and fills voids to prevent flange erosion. Additionally, it significantly reduces failure risks. Typically, this inner ring matches the alloy of the winding. According to the DIN 2699 standard (German), inner rings are mandated in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE filler as per ASME B16.20 standards, and those with graphite fillers, the inner ring is critical. This profile is ideal for raised and flat faced flanges. The external guide ring adds radial strength to avert blowout and serves as a compression stop. Typically, the outer ring is composed of carbon steel, which can be painted or zinc plated to prevent corrosion, or made of alloys for high-temperature and severe applications.
