Crafted for excellence, this spiral wound gasket is equipped with a robust solid outer and inner ring. Notably, an inner ring is meticulously integrated to amplify the gasket's performance, while an external guide ring ensures precise centering on the flange face. The inclusion of the inner ring is a strategic enhancement to thwart any implosion into the pipe during installation, safeguarding the sealing element from extreme temperatures and challenging mediums. It further serves to fill the void between flanges, shielding them from erosion and minimizing the risk of failure. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner rings are mandated by the DIN 2699 standard (German) in all spiral wound gaskets. According to ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are indispensable for gaskets with PTFE filler and are deemed crucial for those with graphite fillers. This sophisticated profile is optimally used in raised and flat-faced flanges. Additionally, the external ring offers essential radial strength to avert gasket blowouts and functions as a compression stop. Usually fabricated from carbon steel (painted or zinc-plated for corrosion resistance), outer rings can also be made from alloys for applications demanding higher temperatures and more severe medium resistance.
