This advanced design incorporates an external guide ring to ensure precise centering of the gasket on the flange face. The inner ring plays a crucial role in preventing gasket implosion into the pipe during installation. Furthermore, it safeguards the sealing element against extreme temperatures and hostile media, effectively bridging the void between flanges to avert flange erosion and minimize potential failures. Crafted from the same high-quality alloy as the winding, the inner ring aligns with the DIN 2699 German specification for all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE filler, inner rings fulfill the ASME B16.20 standards and are deemed essential for those with graphite fillers. This design is adept for use in both raised and flat faced flanges. The addition of an external ring not only enhances radial strength to avert gasket blowout but also serves as a crucial compression stop. Typically composed of carbon steel, which is either painted or zinc-plated for corrosion resistance, the outer ring can also be fashioned from alloys for applications requiring elevated temperatures and rigorous medium handling.
