Enhanced with an additional inner ring, it significantly boosts performance by accurately centering the gasket on the flange face with an external guide ring. This inner ring is crucial, safeguarding against implosion into the pipe during installation, protecting the sealing element from the harshest temperatures and mediums, and filling the void between flanges to prevent erosion. Moreover, it markedly reduces the risk of failure. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring is a hallmark of superior design as per the German DIN 2699 standard, which mandates its inclusion in all spiral wound gaskets. Adhering to ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are requisite for gaskets with PTFE fillers and are highly recommended for those with graphite fillers. This design is predominantly used in raised and flat-faced flanges, ensuring optimal sealing performance.
