This remarkable spiral wound gasket is designed with a robust outer and inner ring, enhanced by an additional inner ring that boosts its performance. This inner ring serves multiple roles: preventing implosion into the pipe during installation, safeguarding the sealing element from extreme conditions, filling the void between flanges to stop erosion, and minimizing failure risks. Crafted typically from the same alloy as the winding, this inner ring aligns with DIN 2699 standards and is crucial for gaskets with PTFE filler as per ASME B16.20 standards, and highly recommended for graphite fillers. Ideal for raised and flat-faced flanges, this profile ensures superior sealing performance. The external guide ring not only precisely centers the gasket on the flange face but also adds radial strength to thwart blowouts, doubling as a compression limiter. Often made from carbon steel – either painted or zinc-plated for corrosion resistance – the outer ring can also be manufactured from special alloys to withstand higher temperatures and harsher environments.
