This exceptional spiral wound gasket is designed with solid outer and inner rings. The inclusion of an inner ring significantly enhances gasket performance by accurately centering it on the flange face. This ring prevents the gasket from imploding into the pipe during installation, protects the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums, fills voids to prevent flange erosion, and dramatically reduces failure risks. Typically, the inner ring matches the alloy of the winding, adhering to DIN 2699 standards (German) which mandate inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. According to ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are essential for gaskets with PTFE filler and are highly recommended for graphite fillers. This profile is ideally suited for both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external guide ring adds radial strength to avert gasket blowout and serves as a compression stop. While commonly made of painted or zinc-plated carbon steel to resist corrosion, the outer ring can also be crafted from specialized alloys for high-temperature and more demanding applications.
