It also fills the gap between flanges to thwart flange erosion, thereby minimizing the chance of failure. The inner ring is customarily fabricated from the same high-quality alloy as the winding, adhering to the stringent specifications of the DIN 2699 standard (German), which mandates inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets utilizing PTFE filler, the ASME B16.20 standards deem inner rings essential, and they are regarded as crucial for those with graphite fillers as well.
