This spiral wound gasket is ingeniously designed with a robust solid outer and inner ring. The inner ring has been strategically inserted to elevate gasket performance, ensuring optimal function. It prevents potential implosion into the pipe during installation, safeguards the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums, fills the void between flanges to avert flange erosion, and minimizes the risk of failure. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring is essential for PTFE fillers as per ASME B16.20 standards and is also critical for graphite fillers. The German DIN 2699 standard mandates inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. Ideal for use in both raised and flat-faced flanges, the external guide ring precisely centers the gasket on the flange face, offering added radial strength to thwart gasket blowouts and acting as a compression stopper. Frequently constructed from carbon steel, which may be painted or zinc-plated to deter corrosion, the outer ring can also be made of specialized alloys for intense temperature and severe medium applications.
