This spiral wound gasket is engineered with a robust outer and inner ring. The addition of the inner ring significantly enhances gasket performance by ensuring precise centering on the flange face and preventing potential implosion during installation. It protects the sealing element from extreme temperatures and hazardous mediums, fills the void between flanges to avert erosion, and minimizes the risk of failure. Typically made from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring conforms to the DIN 2699 German standard, mandating its inclusion in all spiral wound gaskets. For PTFE-filled gaskets, ASME B16.20 standards specify the necessity of inner rings, which are also crucial for graphite fillers. This premium profile is ideal for both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external guide ring imparts additional radial strength, mitigating the risk of blowout and serving as a compression stop. Usually crafted from carbon steel, either painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion, the outer ring can also be manufactured from alloys for high-temperature and more demanding applications.
