This cutting-edge spiral wound gasket boasts a robust design with both a solid outer and inner ring. Ingeniously engineered, an inner ring is seamlessly integrated to significantly enhance gasket performance. This addition ensures precise centering on the flange face and prevents the gasket from imploding into the pipe during installation. By safeguarding the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh mediums, it effectively fills the void between flanges, preventing erosion and significantly reducing failure risk. Crafted usually from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the DIN 2699 standard (German) which mandates its inclusion in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with a PTFE filler, the ASME B16.20 standards necessitate an inner ring, and it is equally critical for those with graphite fillers. This innovative profile is ideally suited for raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring serves a dual purpose: providing extra radial strength to avert blowout and functioning as a compression stop. Typically constructed from carbon steel which is either painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion, it can also be crafted from alloys for applications requiring higher temperature endurance and resistance to severe media.
