This ingeniously crafted spiral wound gasket is equipped with robust outer and inner rings. An additional inner ring is thoughtfully incorporated to significantly enhance gasket performance, coupled with an external guide ring that precisely centers the gasket on the flange face. The inner ring serves multiple crucial roles: it prevents the gasket from collapsing into the pipe during installation, shields the sealing element from harsh temperatures and challenging mediums, fills the gap between flanges to prevent flange erosion, and minimizes the risk of failure. As per the DIN 2699 standard (German), inner rings are specified for all spiral wound gaskets, and their inclusion is mandated for gaskets with PTFE filler in accordance with ASME B16.20 standards, while being highly recommended for graphite fillers. This specific profile is ideally suited for both raised and flat-faced flanges. Meanwhile, the external ring provides additional radial strength to avert gasket blowout and functions as a compression stop. The outer ring, typically crafted from carbon steel (either painted or zinc plated to resist corrosion), can also be manufactured from alloys to accommodate higher temperature and more demanding medium applications.
