This state-of-the-art spiral wound gasket is equipped with a robust solid outer and inner ring. Ingeniously, an additional inner ring has been incorporated to significantly enhance gasket performance. The external guide ring ensures precise centering of the gasket on the flange face. The inner ring serves multiple critical purposes-it acts as a barrier against the gasket collapsing into the pipe during installation, safeguards the sealing component from extreme temperatures and harsh media, fills the void between flanges to avert flange erosion, and lowers the risk of failure. Typically, the inner ring is crafted from the same alloy as the winding, following the DIN 2699 standard (German), which mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE fillers, the ASME B16.20 standards stipulate the necessity of an inner ring, which is also highly recommended for graphite fillers. This design is predominantly employed in raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring imparts additional radial strength to avert gasket blowout and functions as a compression stop. It's commonly constructed from carbon steel, which is either painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion, but can also be made from specialized alloys for higher temperature and more demanding media applications.
