This heavy-duty spiral wound gasket boasts a robust design featuring solid outer and inner rings. An additional inner ring has been ingeniously incorporated to significantly enhance gasket performance. The external guide ring precisely centers the gasket on the flange face, ensuring optimal placement. The inner ring serves multiple critical functions: it prevents the gasket from collapsing into the pipe during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and corrosive mediums, fills the void between flanges to avert flange erosion, and reduces the likelihood of failure. Typically, the inner ring is crafted from the same high-quality alloy as the winding. According to the DIN 2699 standard (German), inner rings are mandated for all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE filler, inner rings are required per ASME B16.20 standards and are deemed vital for those with graphite fillers. This advanced profile is commonly utilized in both raised and flat-faced flanges. The outer ring offers additional radial strength to prevent gasket blowout and functions as a compression stop. Usually made from carbon steel (painted or zinc-plated for corrosion resistance), the outer ring can also be constructed from special alloys for higher temperature and more severe medium applications.
