This spiral wound gasket is engineered with both a robust outer and inner ring. The inclusion of an inner ring is pivotal for elevating gasket performance, ensuring precise centering on the flange face with an external guide ring. By integrating the inner ring, we mitigate the risk of gasket implosion into the pipe during installation, shield the sealing element from extreme environmental conditions, fill the flange void to prevent erosion, and significantly reduce potential failures. Crafted typically from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the German DIN 2699 standard, mandating inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. ASME B16.20 standards necessitate inner rings for gaskets with PTFE fillers and strongly recommend them for graphite fillers. Designed for raised and flat-faced flanges, the external ring offers crucial radial strength to avert blowouts and serves as a compression limiter. While often made from painted or zinc-plated carbon steel to prevent corrosion, the outer ring can also be constructed from various alloys for more demanding applications.
