The incorporation of an inner ring significantly boosts the gasket's performance while the precise external guide ring flawlessly aligns the gasket on the flange face. The inner ring plays a crucial role in safeguarding against the possibility of the gasket collapsing into the pipe during installation. It serves to protect the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive mediums, fills the void between flanges to avert flange erosion, and minimizes the likelihood of failure. Typically constructed from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the DIN 2699 standard (German), mandating inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE filler, the ASME B16.20 standards dictate the necessity of an inner ring, which is also deemed essential for graphite fillers. This innovative profile is ideally suited for use with raised and flat-faced flanges. Additionally, the external ring provides superior radial strength to thwart gasket blowout and functions as a compression stop.
