This ensures optimal centering on the flange face and provides robust protection against gasket implosion during installation. The inner ring serves as a formidable barrier against extreme temperatures and harsh mediums, filling gaps between flanges to curb erosion and significantly reduce failure risks. Typically fashioned from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the stringent DIN 2699 standards (German) which mandate its inclusion in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE filler, the ASME B16.20 standards also require inner rings, which are crucial for graphite fillers. This innovative profile is ideally suited for both raised and flat faced flanges. Additionally, the external guide ring imparts extra radial strength, preventing blowouts and acting as a reliable compression stop. Constructed from carbon steel, often painted or zinc plated to combat corrosion, the outer ring may also be customized from alloys for high-temperature and severe medium applications, ensuring unmatched resilience and performance.
