The external guide ring meticulously centers the gasket on the flange face, enhancing installation precision. The inner ring not only safeguards against implosion into the pipe during installation but also shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh mediums. It effectively fills voids between flanges, preventing erosion and reducing the likelihood of failure. Typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the stringent DIN 2699 German standards, which mandate inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. In compliance with ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are essential for gaskets with PTFE fillers and are highly recommended for graphite fillers.
