Additionally, it averts any risk of the gasket collapsing into the pipe during installation, offers protection against extreme temperatures and aggressive media, fills the void between flanges to prevent flange erosion, and significantly diminishes the chance of failure. Constructed typically from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the DIN 2699 standard (German), which mandates inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. According to ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are essential for gaskets with PTFE filler and are deemed crucial for those with graphite fillers.
