An innovative inner ring has been expertly incorporated to significantly boost gasket performance, while an outer guide ring ensures flawless centering on the flange face. The inner ring's purpose is manifold: it prevents potential gasket implosion into the pipe during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh media, fills the void between flanges to guard against flange erosion, and considerably lowers the risk of failure. Typically, the inner ring is crafted from the same high-quality alloy as the winding. According to the DIN 2699 standard (German), every spiral wound gasket requires an inner ring. For gaskets with PTFE filler, the ASME B16.20 standards mandate inner rings, which are also deemed essential for those with graphite fillers. This gasket profile is ideal for raised and flat faced flanges. The external ring enhances radial strength, preventing blowout, and serves as a compression limiter. Generally, the outer ring is made from durable carbon steel, which may be painted or zinc plated for corrosion resistance, or from specialized alloys for high-temperature or severe media applications.
