This advanced spiral wound gasket boasts a solid outer and inner ring construction. Ingeniously designed, an inner ring is incorporated to elevate gasket performance and includes an external guide ring to ensure precise alignment on the flange face. The inner ring is crucial in preventing the gasket from collapsing into the pipe during installation, safeguarding the sealing element against extreme temperatures and harsh mediums. It also fills the gap between flanges to avert any flange erosion, thereby significantly reducing failure risks. Typically, the inner ring is crafted from the same high-quality alloy as the winding. Complying with the German DIN 2699 standard, inner rings are a requisite for all spiral wound gaskets and are essential for those with PTFE filler as per ASME B16.20 standards, while also being highly advised for graphite fillers. This profile finds its optimal application in raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring plays a pivotal role, enhancing radial strength to prevent blowout and acting as a compression limiter. Usually made of carbon steel, which is either painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion, it can also be fabricated from alloys for high-temperature or severe medium environments.
