This ring also serves to protect the sealing element from extreme conditions, fills the flange void to prevent erosion, and minimizes the risk of failure. Typically, the inner ring is crafted from the same alloy as the winding. According to the DIN 2699 standard (German) and ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are mandatory for gaskets with PTFE filler and are highly recommended for those with graphite fillers.
