This inner ring, crafted from the same high-quality alloy as the winding, serves as a safeguard against gasket implosion during installation, protection from extreme temperatures and mediums, and fills the void between flanges to avert flange erosion and minimize failure risks. As per the DIN 2699 standard, inner rings are compulsory for all spiral wound gaskets, with PTFE filler gaskets adhering to ASME B16.20 standards, and are deemed crucial for graphite fillers. Ideal for both raised and flat-faced flanges, the external ring infuses added radial strength to prevent blowouts and acts as a compression stop. Typically made from carbon steel, painted or zinc-plated for corrosion resistance, the outer ring can also be forged from specialty alloys for handling high temperatures and challenging mediums.
