Notably, an inner ring is strategically incorporated to boost gasket performance and ensure optimal alignment on the flange face. This inner ring plays a crucial role in preventing the gasket from collapsing into the pipe during installation, safeguarding the sealing element against intense temperatures and harsh mediums. It effectively fills the void between flanges to avert flange erosion and minimize the risk of failure. Typically, the inner ring is crafted from the same durable alloy as the winding. Adhering to the DIN 2699 standards, inner rings are specified for all spiral wound gaskets in Germany, and also mandated for gaskets with PTFE filler as per ASME B16.20 standards, where they are deemed essential for graphite fillers.
