The enhanced design includes an inner ring that improves gasket performance, while an external guide ring ensures precise centering on the flange face. The inner ring prevents potential gasket implosion during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh mediums, fills voids between flanges to avert erosion, and minimizes the risk of failure. Crafted from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the stringent DIN 2699 (German) standards, which mandate inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. According to ASME B16.20 standards, inner rings are essential for gaskets with PTFE filler and are highly recommended for graphite fillers. This top-tier profile is designed for use in both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring offers extra radial strength, preventing blowout and serving as a compression stop. Typically made from carbon steel (either painted or zinc-plated for corrosion resistance), the outer ring can also be crafted from specialized alloys to withstand higher temperatures and more severe conditions.
