The addition of an inner ring significantly elevates the gasket's performance by enhancing stability and ensuring precise centering on the flange face. This essential component prevents the gasket from imploding into the pipe during installation, safeguarding the sealing element against extreme temperatures and harsh mediums. Furthermore, it efficiently fills the void between flanges to avert erosion and mitigate the risk of failure. Typically, the inner ring is fashioned from the same high-quality alloy as the winding, in accordance with the DIN 2699 standard (German) and ASME B16.20 standards, particularly imperative for gaskets with PTFE or graphite fillers. Ideally suited for raised and flat-faced flanges, the external guide ring offers additional radial strength to thwart gasket blowout and acts as a reliable compression stop. Constructed often from carbon steel, which is either painted or zinc plated to prevent corrosion, the outer ring can also be made from enhanced alloys for higher temperature resilience and severe medium applications.
