This inner ring serves multiple critical functions: it prevents the gasket from imploding into the pipe during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and mediums, fills the void between flanges to avert erosion, and significantly reduces the risk of failure. The inner ring is typically crafted from the same alloy as the winding, adhering to the stringent DIN 2699 German standards which mandate inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. ASME B16.20 standards also require inner rings for gaskets with PTFE filler, recognizing their importance for graphite fillers. This meticulously designed profile is ideal for use in both raised and flat-faced flanges.
