This premium spiral wound gasket boasts a robust outer and inner ring, with an additional inner ring meticulously inserted to significantly enhance gasket performance. The external guide ring ensures precise centering on the flange face. The inner ring serves multiple critical functions: it safeguards against implosion into the pipe during installation, shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and harsh media, fills the void between flanges to prevent flange erosion, and minimizes the risk of failure. Typically made from the same alloy as the winding, the DIN 2699 standard mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. Per ASME B16.20 standards, PTFE-filled gaskets require inner rings, with graphite fillers also benefiting from their inclusion. This versatile profile is predominantly employed in raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring provides additional radial strength, preventing blowouts and serving as a compression stop. Generally crafted from carbon steel (painted or zinc-plated to resist corrosion), the outer ring can also be made from high-performance alloys for elevated temperatures and more demanding applications.
