It also precisely centers the gasket on the flange face, providing enhanced protection and stability. The inner ring serves as a crucial barrier, preventing the gasket from collapsing into the pipe during installation. It also shields the sealing element from extreme temperatures and aggressive media, while filling gaps between flanges to avert potential erosion and minimize the risk of failure. Crafted typically from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring complies with the DIN 2699 standard (German) mandating inner rings in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE fillers, adherence to ASME B16.20 standards necessitates inner rings and is deemed essential for those with graphite fillers. This design is ideal for raised and flat-faced flanges. The exterior guide ring not only provides additional radial strength, preventing blowouts, but also acts as a compression stop. This design's resilience makes it suitable for raised and flat-faced flanges. Typically manufactured from carbon steel, the outer ring may also be zinc plated or painted to thwart corrosion.
