This spiral wound gasket is engineered with both a robust outer and inner ring. The integration of an inner ring is a strategic enhancement to boost gasket lifespan and efficiency. This ring serves multiple vital functions: it precisely centers the gasket on the flange face, mitigates the risk of the gasket collapsing into the pipe during setup, and shields the sealing element from harsh temperatures and chemicals. Moreover, it fills the gap between flanges to avert flange erosion and minimizes failure risk. Typically crafted from the same durable alloy as the winding, the inner ring adheres to the German DIN 2699 standard, which mandates inner rings for all spiral wound gaskets. Per ASME B16.20 standards, an inner ring is essential for gaskets with PTFE fillers, and highly recommended for those with graphite fillers. This design is ideal for both raised and flat-faced flanges. The external ring not only amplifies radial strength to prevent blowout but also acts as a compression limiter. Often composed of carbon steel, treated to resist corrosion, or alternatively of special alloys for demanding high-temperature or aggressive chemical environments, this ring ensures optimal gasket performance.
