This state-of-the-art spiral wound gasket is designed with both solid outer and inner rings to ensure optimal performance and reliability. By incorporating an inner ring, the gasket's integrity is fortified against potential implosions during installation, providing robust protection against extreme temperatures and various mediums. The inner ring also effectively fills the void between flanges, safeguarding them from erosion and significantly reducing the risk of failure. Typically constructed from the same alloy as the winding, the inner ring complies with the German DIN 2699 standard, which mandates their presence in all spiral wound gaskets. For gaskets with PTFE filler, inner rings are compulsory according to ASME B16.20 standards and are highly recommended for graphite fillers as well. The precision-fit external guide ring centers the gasket perfectly on the flange face, offering additional radial strength to avert blowout and serving as a reliable compression stop. This configuration is ideal for use in both raised and flat-faced flanges. While the outer ring is commonly crafted from corrosion-resistant carbon steel, it can also be composed of high-performance alloys for demanding high-temperature and severe medium environments.
